Scottish Government: Onshore Wind Policy Statement

January 5, 2018

The Scottish Government has published its Onshore Wind Policy Statement, which states a continued commitment to the deployment of onshore wind.  This follows publication of the Energy Strategy in December which included a target for 50% of all Scotland’s energy demand to come from renewable energy sources by 2030.

There is huge potential for Scotland to maximise its natural resources to meet its targets, however current UK Government policy does not provide the opportunity for onshore wind to be considered alongside other forms of electricity generation. This needs to urgently change in order for onshore wind in Scotland to reach its full potential, and to maintain the strong economic growth that has developed around the Scottish renewables industry.
