New renewable energy project for Anglesey
Airvolution Energy Ltd has received planning consent for two new wind turbines on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales. The planning application submitted to Isle of Anglesey County Council in October 2010 was approved by the Council early July 2011.
The wind turbines are to be located at Ysgellog Farm, near the town of Amlwch, and will have the capacity to provide up to 2400 local homes with clean renewable energy.
Kevin McNamara, Chief Executive of Airvolution Energy said,
“We are delighted with the news. We believe this is a good project for Anglesey and are really pleased with the result. There a number of potential benefits from the scheme including a community benefit fund, local renewable energy provision and an inflow of money to the community from business rates. We look forward to working with Isle of Anglesey Council and local residents to install the turbines”.
Onshore wind farms in the UK now supply electricity to more than 2 million homes and are playing a vital role in reducing the nation’s dependency on fossil fuels. This project, for 2 new wind turbines on Anglesey, is playing its part in meeting the wider UK renewable energy targets and the more local Anglesey Energy Island Strategy.
